current songs on repeat:
good music from the past to the present to put into your rotation
‘Hand in My Pocket’/Alanis Morissette
“And what it all comes down to / Is that I haven’t got it all figured out just yet / ‘Cause I’ve got one hand in my pocket / And the other one is givin’ a peace sign“
Over the holiday day break I finally got to watch the Alanis Morissette doc Jagged that’s on HBO Max (so good; please watch). There has been so much Alanis Morisette nostalgia as of late with 2020 being the 25th anniversary of the album ‘Jagged Little Pill’ (one of my favorite albums of my lifetime) and with the Tony & Grammy award winning Jagged Little Pill: The Musical launching on Broadway. I’m here for the nostalgia, and I have jumped back right in into loving Alanis like no days had gone by since I was a 15 year old girl. I ordered the vinyl with the quickness online (it’s really hard to find!) so I could keep this gem in my collection. This song is a forever fave; in the documentary, they touched quite a bit on what this song meant to the masses: “It’s mulling over all these contradictions and
it’s not really seeing an answer as much it is seeking affirmation that the contradictions are okay to live with.” Precisely.
‘Because You Loved Me’/Celine Dion
“You stood by me and I stood tall / I had your love, I had it all”.
I have rediscovered Celine Dion. Celine Dion has currently been playing on a loop all day because I was looking through the ‘what you friends are listening to’ feature on Spotify sidebar and saw one friend was stuck on Celine Dion. Had forgot she existed so decided to take a listen at a couple of songs I remember being into in the past, and the rest is history. As my friend has now welcomed me to the ‘Celine Dion Daily Listening Club”, for which I’m sure I will be president one day. I remember loving this particular song as a kid after seeing the moving Up Close and Personal on TV when I was 16 or 17. I thought it was one of the best love songs ever written and sang and I guess I still think that after listening to it like 15 times today.
Do you have any fond memories or songs connected to any of these songs?
